A meeting held at TU on speciality construction and micro-certification

On the morning of May 6, a meeting was held on Jiaojiang Campus to promote the speciality construction and launch the speciality micro-certification. Chen Guangting, Vice Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of Taizhou University, attended and delivered a speech, and Li Junmin, member of the CPC Committee and Vice President of Taizhou University, presided over the meeting.

The meeting started with the commendation and award of speciality construction assessment in 2021. Chen Guangting awarded honorary certificates for 12 majors of excellence in assessment, including Chinese Language and Literature, Elementary Education, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Physical Education, Clinical Medicine, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Polymer Materials and Engineering, Mechanical Design Manufacturing and Automation, Civil Engineering, Material Forming and Control Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Nursing and so on. The honorary certificates of input-output "Best Performance Award" were awarded to Architecture, History and Material Physics.

Chen Guangting pointed out the significance of this meeting and put forward four new requirements for speciality construction. First, fully understand the importance and status of speciality construction. Building morality and cultivating people is the most fundamental task of TU. We should strengthen the construction of teachers and teaching grass-roots organizations,reinforce the guarantee of conditions, build high-quality courses, and pay attention to the process of students' learning and growth. Meanwhile, more investment should be made in funds, equipment, personnel and venues, and great importance should be attached to the process of speciality construction. Second, focus on the "Four New (i.e.,New Engineering, New Medicine, New Agriculture and New Liberal Arts)" to further enhance the connotation of speciality construction. "Four New" construction is an important carrier to implement the spirit of the National Education Conference and build high-quality undergraduate education. Schools should not only attach importance to the addition of new majors, but also pay attention to the construction and reform of extant majors. In terms of specialty layout, we should stick to the principle of controlling the total amount and optimizing the structure to set up new majors, strengthen the transformation and upgrading of traditional majors, guide some majors to withdraw voluntarily, and form a characteristic specialty group suitable for local industrial development. In order to train the applied talents, we should continuously deepen and upgrade the cooperation between the University and enterprises, the strengthening of dual cores and the integration of learning and doing. We should also conform to the construction standard requirements of national demonstrative industrial colleges, strengthen the construction of industrial colleges, and promote the dual development of industrial colleges and industrial research institutes as well as talent training and social services, so as to promote the construction of advantageous majors and characteristic majors. Third, pay close attention to certification to further improve the level of talent training. Since speciality certification is directly related to the training quality of students, the important indicators of first-class majors should be used as benchmarks in our speciality construction. The talent training plan and training process of specialities related to engineering, medicine and education should be revised and improved in line with the standards of speciality certification to establish and improve the speciality quality assurance system, and promote the formation of quality culture of self-awareness, self-reflection, self-examination, self correction and self-discipline. Fourth, we should make solid progress in micro-certification. The speciality micro-certification is launched very timely with a highly operable scheme and reasonable deployment. Micro-certification is not only a prelude to the formal speciality certification, but also a means of speciality construction. Relevant schools should prepare and carry out micro-certification in an organized and orderly manner according to corresponding standards, and must take advantage of the opportunity of micro-certification to publicize the notion of speciality certification to all teachers and students.

Li Junmin pointed out that the purpose of carrying out speciality  micro-certification is to better connect the three-level speciality certification of the Ministry of Education, effectively find out the gap in the process of speciality construction, and constantly improve the level of speciality construction. She put forward three requirements for micro-certification. First, we should attach great importance to the speciality  micro-certification. Second, we should actively deploy and involve all staff; Third, responsibility should be assigned to individuals and all staff should cooperate.

The Academic Affairs Office introduced the performance assessment of speciality construction in 2021, interpreted the work plan of speciality micro-certification in detail, and published the list of the first batch of speciality micro-certification.
