The campuses of TU are bursting with life, where the golden breeze carries the promise of a fruitful future. On September 14th and 15th, the 2023 undergraduate opening ceremonies took place at the university's two campuses. Exceptional students from around the world gathered at TU, brimming with joy as they embarked on a new chapter in their lives. University leaders, including Cui Fengjun, Le Chuanyong, Jin Xianlong, Zhao Xiaoming, Wang Zheng, Hu Shaoguang, Li Junmin, Li Weiming, Yang Jianguo, and Jin Song, attended the ceremony and took their seats on the podium.

The entire assembly joined in singing the national anthem, marking the official commencement of the opening ceremony.

At the ceremony, university leaders adorned the representatives of the freshmen on stage with the university emblems. Meanwhile, other freshmen pinned the emblems on themselves. The university emblem serves as TU’s symbol and logo. When worn, the freshmen will share the same identity of “TUer” that accompanies them throughout their lives. It will bear witness to these new students as they carry forward their aspirations, shoulder their missions through practical actions, and grow into young individuals of the new era who are idealistic, brave, resilient, and dedicated to striving for excellence.

Shao Ling from the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Fan Xiaoyan from the School of Medicine, Li Kuo from the School of Marxism, and Chen Weizhao from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering spoke on behalf of the faculty. They expressed their hope that students would embrace the school motto “Develop your moral being and lead a virtuous life; Seize the time and opportunity upgrading your proficiency”. They encouraged students to follow their dreams and use their boundless enthusiasm to craft an authentic and fearless journey through youth.

Yu Xi Saizhi from the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Xia Jingru from the School of Art and Design, Zheng Mengli from the School of Foreign Languages, and Cai Zhongzhe from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering recounted their academic adventures at TU. They advised the freshmen to stand by their ideals, broaden their horizons, sharpen their skills, and grow alongside the ever-changing world.

Yu Xuanhe from the School of Life Sciences, Wang Shiyu from the School of Pharmceutical Sciences, Ye Yuxuan from the School of Humanities, and Jin Yutong from the School of Teacher Education spoke on behalf of the freshmen. They pledged to quickly adapt to their new roles, adjust their understanding of college life, expand their horizons continuously, and strive to excel in TU's rich academic landscape with unwavering dedication and determination.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Cui Fengjun, Secretary of the CPC University Committee, delivered the inaugural lesson to all freshmen of 2023, titled “A Happy Life Begins with Dedication”. For six consecutive years from 2018 to 2023, Mr. Cui has imparted an opening lesson to new students, inspiring them to nurture a thirst for knowledge and a vision for the future, maintain inner serenity and resilience, and stride forward in pursuit of a happy life.

The event was attended by the party and administration leadership from each school, heads of relevant departments, class instructors and advisors, and all freshmen of 2023.
