TU student Yao Hongming saved a girl from drowning

Yao Hongming, a student from Taizhou University, saved a drowning girl in the Linghu Lake on the afternoon of November 18.

When walking around Linghu Lake, Yao noticed someone was weltering in the water. He looked around and tried to use a long pole to save the girl, but the pole could not reach her. He rushed to the Linghu Lake security office for help. When he returned, he found that the drowning girl was drifting towards the deep-water area of the lake. To make matters worse, as the girl’s clothes soaked in water, she began to sink gradually.

Yao put on the lifebuoy from the security office and swam swiftly to the side of the drowning person, not having the time to take off his shirt. The temperature that day was around 7 degrees Celsius. The lake water was icy. He circled behind the girl, pulled a part of her clothes, and swam with all his strength towards the bank. The girl was saved. Yao silently left the scene.

“At the moment I jumped in, I did not think too much. I just wanted to rescue the person as soon as possible. I could not just stand by and watch a life slip away. When I swam to her side, the water was already covering her nose. I could see that she was dying, but luckily, I arrived in time.” said Yao Hongming.

Yao Hongming is currently a student at the School of Marxism, Taizhou University. As the chairperson of the school-level youth league association as well as the monitor of Class 1, Ideological and Political Education (Teacher Training) of 2021, he is a truly warm-hearted student, always willing to help others. After learning about his heroic act, TU teachers and students all showered him with praise, and expressed their willingness to learn from him by doing good deeds for others.
