Qiu Minjing, Vice Dean of the School of Engineering of the University of Pittsburgh, led a delegation to visit Taizhou University (TU) on May 9th. Li Jianjun, Vice President and Member of the Standing Communist Party of China (CPC) TU committee, met the delegation. The meeting was hosted by Wang Aiqin, Deputy Director of International Exchange and Cooperation Department. Heads of Teaching Affairs Department, School of Electronics and Information Engineering, School of Life Sciences, School of Intelligent Manufacturing and relevant departments attended the meeting.
On behalf of the university, Li Jianjun warmly welcomed the delegation, reviewed the achievements made by the two universities since last year’s exchange, and expressed the hope that the two universities would join hands to promote the in-depth cooperation in related disciplines and specialties. Qiu Minjing introduced the recent status of the University of Pittsburgh, focusing on the promotion of the graduate cooperation program, and said that more areas of cooperation could be carried out to achieve a win-win situation.
In the morning, representatives of the two universities held a “2+2” joint undergraduate training agreement negotiation in the third conference room. After the negotiation, the two universities reached a consensus that undergraduates from TU can go to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and study two years there after two years’ study at TU. Upon graduation, they will be conferred bachelor’s degrees by both TU and the University of Pittsburgh.
In the afternoon of the day, the representatives of the two universities held a meeting in the first conference room to discuss the details, such as majors, language requirements, tuition, duration, courses, degrees, scholarships, and so on, for the implementation of the “3+1+1” model of joint graduate programs. “2+2” model joint undergraduate programs in the related majors of Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Computer Science were discussed as well.
It is learned that the University of Pittsburgh is one of the public universities with the longest history in the U.S. It ranked 45th in the 2023 US News Global Universities Rankings. TU and the University of Pittsburgh signed a memorandum in January 2024. This meeting has further enhanced mutual understanding, and deepened the friendship, pushing the exchange and cooperation between the two universities to a new level.
The meeting between TU and the University of Pittsburgh
