University leaders put on the university badges for the representative freshmen. From now on, all the freshmen have a common identity—“TUer”. (note: the shortened addressing of Taizhou University is TU. Those who are studying or working at TU are called TUers.) The badge will push the freshmen to practice the school motto “Immerse yourself in ethical integrity; Arm yourself with well-timed facility” and achieve their best.
Le Chuanyong delivers a speech
Le Chuanyong, President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC TU Committee, welcomed all the freshmen and wished them “writing a youthful and fruitful chapter of their life”. Le pointed out that Taizhou’s unique geographic location has created a unique temperament of softness and fortitude, as well as gentleness and boldness. It is a city worthy of deep rooting. Taizhou is the birthplace of China’s private economy, the cradle of China’s joint-stock cooperative economy, the pioneering place of China’s market economy. For the past three consecutive years, Taizhou has secured its show-up in the Spring Festival Gala of China.
Looking back at the university’s history of more than 100 years, Le Chuanyong pointed out that, as Taizhou’s “highest-level educational institution”, TU has risen from specialized education to undergraduate education and then to postgraduate education, from a teachers’ training school to a comprehensive university and then to a university strong in science and technology, teacher training and medical science, and humanities and social sciences.
Le Chuanyong emphasized that, in recent years, Taizhou University has been concentrating its efforts on the task of “upgrading to a higher-level university; applying for doctor’s degree programs; striving to be first-class” and adhering to the philosophy of integrated construction of disciplines and professional degree programs, hence achieving the enhancement in terms of schooling and making the university a promising university. He hoped that all the freshmen get involved in the historical development of Taizhou and TU. He shared his ideas on “how to live a good college life” with the freshmen present.
