Orientation education for the international students of Grade 2024 was conducted in the International Conference Hall of Jiaojiang Campus on the afternoon of September 11. Wang Aiqin, Vice Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department (Chair), attended and delivered a speech. Li Geng, Deputy Director of the Jiaojiang Exit & Entry Management Brigade, Xu Lili, Second-level sergeant of the Linhai Dayang Traffic Police Brigade, were invited to lecture on relevant laws and regulations. All the staff of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department participated in the event.
Wang Aiqin extended her welcome to the international students. She pointed out that the 2024 freshmen were from 34 countries, such as Russia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Pakistan, Zambia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Rwanda, Sudan, Nigeria, Iran, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Liberia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and others. These countries had frequent exchanges and close contacts with China in the past. She introduced the historical, cultural and economic characteristics of the seaport city Taizhou and the achievements of TU.
She put forward her expectations for the freshmen: first, “adaptable”. She hoped that the freshmen would integrate themselves into the learning and living environment of TU as early as possible and abide by Chinese laws and regulations and university disciplines. Second, “integrity”. Integrity is the pursuit of students’ character. She hoped that they would focus on cultivating their personality, quality, knowledge and ability. Third, “aim-oriented”. She hoped they could set goals, stimulate interest, grow knowledge, master skills, and be a person with a plan in the ocean of knowledge. Fourth, “team-focused”. She hoped that they would help each other in daily life, make progress together in learning, and improve themselves in teamwork. Fifth, “hardworking”. She hoped that they would study hard, make breakthroughs in knowledge and ability, and strive to grow into high-quality and specialized international talents. Sixth, “available”. She hoped that they would learn Chinese well, acquire professional knowledge well, and become friendly “messengers” to promote exchanges between countries, so that they could become “bridges” for mutual learning and mutual appreciation between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
Liu Teng, a teacher from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, gave a speech as a teacher representative. He encouraged the freshmen to speak and practice more during their study in China so as to improve their Chinese language proficiency and integrate themselves into the Chinese learning environment faster. He hoped the freshmen to focus on their studies, make study plans and improve their self-learning ability. He believed that their experience in TU would become a valuable treasure and unforgettable memory in their lives.
Two freshmen, one from Bangladesh and the other from Indonesia, spoke on behalf of all the upper-class students and freshmen respectively, sharing their feelings of studying and living in Taizhou, and expressing their expectations for the future and blessings to all the international students.
Qiu Wenzi, an officer from the Exit-Entry Management Brigade of Jiaojiang Branch of Taizhou Municipal Public Security Bureau gave a short lecture on issues of laws and security. She reminded international students of timely registering, upgrading and keeping their individual identity credentials and passports, abiding by the requirements of foreigners’ residence in China, and opposing illegal residence and employment.
Xu Lili, an officer from the Linhai Dayang Traffic Police Brigade, gave a lecture on traffic safety for international students. With vivid cases, she introduced various situations that may cause traffic accidents to international students in an interactive way and gave them safety suggestions. She presented blue helmets, which means safety, to the students who participated in the interactive session.
Qiu Yu, a volunteer from the Anti-Drug Lecturers Group of TU, presented anti-drug knowledge to the freshmen, reminding them of cherishing life and staying away from drugs. A student with Chinese name Li Qiang from Bangladesh presented anti-fraud knowledge and hoped that the international freshmen would be more vigilant and safeguard their personal property.
The orientation education for international students of 2024 was meant to help the international freshmen to better integrate into the Chinese learning environment, understand and consciously abide by all disciplines and rules and regulations, raise their safety awareness and enhance their self-protection ability during their stay in China.
