Professor Yang Jianguo, Vice President and Member of the CPC TU Committee, with his delegation, visited New Mexico State University and California Baptist University in the United States, Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and Zhejiang Yinlun Industrial Park in Monterrey, Mexico upon the invitation of relevant universities and enterprises in the United States and Mexico from September 22nd to 29th.
At New Mexico State University, Yang Jianguo and his delegation were warmly received by David V. Jauregui, Dean of the College of Engineering. Dean Jauregui introduced the College of Engineering, affirmed the previous cooperative education projects between the two universities, and expressed the willingness to continue efforts to facilitate the renewal of cooperative education projects. He also expressed the intention to renew the cooperation framework agreement and expand joint master’s degree programs, suggesting a “2+1” master’s or “3+1+1” bachelor’s and master’s joint training program. Yang Jianguo stated that the two universities had a good foundation for cooperation in the early stage and hoped to find new cooperation points to explore joint master’s degree training. Dean Jauregui expressed support for long-term and short-term student exchange activities between the two universities, agreeing to maintain communication in curriculum alignment and provide convenience as much as possible.
At California Baptist University, Karen Bradley, Vice President and Dean of the School of Nursing, met with the visiting delegation. Vice President Bradley warmly welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced the School of Nursing. Given that TU has already obtained a master’s degree program in nursing, Bradley suggested continuing the cooperation between the two universities, focusing on joint graduate training, including “3+0” or “2+1” dual-degree programs for master’s degrees in nursing, and joint doctoral training in nursing. Yang Jianguo expressed his anticipation for the promising cooperation between the two universities, stating that they could cooperate comprehensively at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels and link their cooperation with the construction of the International Nursing School at TU. TU will strive to duly implement these projects. Yang Jianguo invited California Baptist University to visit TU at time appropriate.
In Monterrey, Ricardo Swain, Dean of the College of Engineering at ITESM, Patricia Mora, Director of the Innovation Center, Adriana Vargas, Dean of the School of Engineering and Science, Mark Wood, Dean of the School of Architecture, Art, and Design, and Michael Fung, Executive Director of the Institute for Future Education, jointly met with the visiting delegation led by Vice President Yang Jianguo. After friendly negotiations between the hosts and guests, they reached an agreement to sign a cooperation framework and intend to carry out subsequent cooperative education programs, exploring the establishment of a tripartite cooperation model among TU, ITESM, and Yinlun Co., Ltd. Accompanied by persons in charge from ITESM, the visiting delegation also toured the campus in Monterrey, experiencing its library, teaching buildings, EXPEDITION building, and inspecting the university’s practices and achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship.
At UNAM, Yang Jianguo and his delegation visited important buildings such as the University President’s Building and the Central Library, gaining an understanding of the university. The university enjoys high social recognition in fields such as architecture, engineering, chemistry, accounting, design, and sports science. Cooperation can be deepened in areas such as teacher and student exchanges as well as short-term visiting scholars.
Zhejiang Yinlun Machinery Co., Ltd. established an overseas factory in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2023 and has successively obtained contracts from well-known automakers as Tesla. Currently, the factory employs over 600 Mexican workers. Xu Xiaomin, Chairman of Yinlun Co., Ltd., Chen Xiaobin, General Manager of Yinlun North America, and the person in charge of the Monterrey factory hosted the visiting delegation led by Yang Jianguo, guided them on a tour of the factory, and introduced its factory.
The delegation held two training sessions for employees of Yinlun’s Mexican branch at the Yinlun Silk Road School of TU. Firstly, Professor Chen Pengzhan, Dean of the School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Director of the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems, delivered a keynote report titled “AI Empowering Intelligent Manufacturing: Enhancing Efficiency and Leading the Future.” Secondly, Professor Wang Aiqin, Vice Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Department, conducted a training lecture on “An Overview of China: Chinese History”. The two training sessions not only disseminated advanced manufacturing concepts but also promoted traditional Chinese culture, hence getting liked by Mexican employees. These two sessions marked the beginning of overseas training at the Yinlun Silk Road School of TU and were measures taken by the Silk Road School to support high-quality “going-global” of Taizhou enterprises.
Visiting universities and enterprises in the United States and Mexico achieved the expected goals, obtaining more opportunities for the university’s international exchanges and for teachers and students to study abroad, and laying a solid foundation for launching international cooperative education programs and establishing international cooperative education institutions. By learning from the educational and teaching concepts of universities in the United States and Mexico, it has positive implications for deepening teaching reform, promoting applied construction, cultivating international talents, and the construction of the Jiangkou campus of TU.
