The “Zhejiang Engineering Research Center for New Rubber and Plastic Materials” aims to meet the significant strategic demands of the national new materials industry development, closely follows the frontier of the “New Materials” scientific and technological innovation hub in Zhejiang Province, and aligns with the development direction of Taizhou’s “456” advanced industrial cluster. Based on the construction principle of “gathering large teams, organizing major projects, producing significant achievements, and fostering major industries,” the center is characterized by scientific and technological innovation driving industrial collaborative innovation. It focuses on critical scientific issues and applied research in flame-retardant polymer materials, targeting technological challenges such as multifunctionality, lightweighting, intellectualization, and greenification of rubber and plastic materials. The center conducts key technology research and significant achievement transformations in areas such as electrically conductive and flame-retardant rubber and plastic materials, microcellular foamed rubber and plastic materials, flexible gripping jaw rubber and plastic materials, reversible cross-linked rubber and plastic materials, as well as complete sets of processing equipment and molds. The center strives to form a batch of original and landmark scientific and technological achievements with international influence in the field of advanced rubber and plastic materials, focuses on enhancing the sustainable development capacity and international competitiveness of the new materials industry, and aims to establish a “domestically leading” high-energy scientific and technological innovation platform that is compatible with the local industrial structure and rich in regional characteristics.

In recent years, TU has been attaching great importance to the construction of science and technology innovation platforms by strengthening policy guidance, increasing special support, and strengthening site security, so as to promote the major science and technology innovation platform to “high capacity”. The university focuses on the construction of provincial “315” science and technology innovation system and Taizhou’s “One Bow and One Arrow” science and technology innovation system, and focuses on the “Eight Plans for Science and Technology Actions” to promote the “Organized Scientific Research”, and strengthens the precise coupling between platforms and industries. The certification of the provincial engineering research center will further promote TU in rubber and plastic materials technology research and transformation of scientific and technological achievements. This will also promote the development of scientific research work of the university and help Taizhou City’s sustainable development of related industries and competitiveness enhancement.
