At the invitation of six Thailand and Malaysia universities, Li Junmin, Vice President and Member of the CPC TU Committee, led a delegation and visited these universities, which include Chulalongkorn University and Krirk University in Thailand, and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, Mahsa University, Tunku Abdul Rahman University, and University of Malaya in Malaysia from October 20th to 27th.
With Prof. Palanee Ammaranond, Vice President of International Affairs of Chulalongkorn University
In Chulalongkorn University, the delegation was warmly received by Palanee Ammaranond, Vice President of International Affairs, Professor Nattiya Hirankarn of Faculty of Medicine, and Professor Pornchai of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The delegation visited the Synthesis Laboratory, Experimental Analytical Testing Center, Cellular Laboratory as well as students’ study rooms, Students’ Entrepreneurial Center (Pharmaceutical Sales Center), Affiliated Hospital and the Sino-Thai Joint Laboratory of Natural Medicinal Chemistry jointly built by the two sides, and had extensive exchanges with teachers and students of the laboratories. Both sides introduced each other’s university, affirmed the construction foundation of the joint laboratory between School of Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering of TU and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Chulalongkorn University in the early stage, proposed to further promote the construction of Sino-Thai Joint Laboratory of Natural Medicinal Chemistry, and determined the subsequent mutual assignment of students, cooperation in scientific research projects and the construction of the laboratories. Li Junmin said that Chulalongkorn University has strong strength in the fields of medicine, nursing, pharmaceutical sciences, sciences, and both sides can further expand the scientific research cooperation between teachers in multiple fields, while encouraging full-time TU teachers of Clinical Medicine, Nursing and other majors to go to Chulalongkorn University to carry out academic upgrading and study visits. Li Junmin hoped that the two sides could strengthen the financial support for the exchange of students to further promote the exchange program, and invited professors from Chulalongkorn University to visit our university and give lectures to the students of the program in due time.
Discussing with Krirk University
At Krirk University, Wang Changming, Chairman of the Management Committee of the university, and Supa, Vice President of the university, met with the delegation led by TU Vice President Li Junmin. Wang Changming introduced the history of Krirk, its professional settings, enrollment levels, and teaching characteristics. Krirk University adopts Western-style teaching and Chinese-style management, and in view of the outstanding faculty of TU, Wang sincerely invited the teachers of TU to teach in Krirk. Li Junmin introduced TU, pointing out that the two sides can work together to carry out training in health and elderly care, and encourage teachers from TU’s School of Art and Design and School of Teacher Education to upgrade their academic qualifications.
With Prof. Tse Soo Juan, Vice Chancellor of Tunku Abdul Raman University of Management and Technology
At Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, Prof. Tse Soo Juan, Vice President of the University, met with the delegation led by Li Junmin. Both sides introduced their respective universities. Based on “Zhejiang-Malaysia Joint Laboratory of Bioactive Materials and Applied Microorganisms” jointly built by the two sides, they exchanged information on the progress of the implementation of the Joint Laboratory, explored new areas of cooperation and projects, and the results of the cooperative activities. They planned to publish the results of cooperative activities in relevant journals, newspapers and magazines. The issue promoting the exchange of faculty members and students of the two universities was discussed as well. Li Junmin and her delegation visited the School of Applied Sciences of Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology and talked with the students who were co-supervised over their theses.
Signing Ceremony between TU and Tunku Abdul Rahman University
In Tunku Abdul Rahman University, the delegation was met by the President of the university Dato’ Yoh Fong Tat. President Yoh Fong Tat made an introduction about the university. The director of TU’s Journal Editorial Department introduced the history and development of Journal of Taizhou University, the construction of the Journal’s columns and the mode of column hosts, and invited the senior professors of Tunku Abdul Rahman University to act as the hosts of the columns so as to promote the construction of academic journals of the two universities and realize the mutual evaluation of the articles of the journal’s periodicals and international academic exchanges. The two sides negotiated on the signing of the first Global Engineers Conference to be held in Taizhou, and intended to jointly promote the continued publication of the conference proceedings.
Visiting the Nursing Laboratory of Mahsa University
At Mahsa University, the delegation was received by Veronica Chua, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nursing and Education. The delegation visited Mahsa University’s Human Medicine Pavilion, university library, laboratories, and Medical Education Skills Training Center. After mutual introductions, the two sides stated that the two universities could develop comprehensive cooperation at three levels of training: undergraduate, master’s and doctoral. Undergraduate training can be carried out in 3+1 or 2+2 mode; postgraduate training can be carried out through joint enrollment, joint awarding of degrees, and joint thesis and practice sessions; and doctoral training can be carried out through sharing of practice bases and faculties. Subsequently, the two sides discussed in detail about the cooperation and joint construction of International Nursing School, joint cultivation of postgraduate students and mutual employment of postgraduate supervisors. The two sides reached a high intention to cooperate on joint training of nursing professionals and planned to sign a cooperation agreement in the future. TU’s School of Medicine invited Prof. Veronica Chua to carry out nursing-related academic exchanges at TU.
At University of Malaya
At University of Malaya, the delegation talked with some Chinese students at the university to learn about the enrollment, the study and life of Chinese students in Malaya. The delegation visited the campus of University of Malaya, its Medical School and affiliated hospitals, and talked with Prof. Phang Kean Chang’s team from Faculty of Medicine on the subsequent cooperation between the two sides, and invited them to go to TU for academic exchanges.
The visits to universities in Thailand and Malaysia have achieved the expected goals, opened up a broader space for international exchanges and teachers and students to go abroad, broadened new channels for students to study abroad, and laid a good foundation for the subsequent cooperation in running schools. By learning from the advanced and mature educational and teaching concepts of Thai and Malaysian universities, it will have a positive impact on our international education, educational and teaching reform, innovation and entrepreneurship work, campus construction, and so on.
