Appointment Ceremony for Professor Jon Clarence Antilla held

The appointment ceremony for Professor Jon Clarence Antilla was held at the Jiaojiang Campus Administration Building on the morning of January 7. Yue Chuanyong, President of the university and Deputy Secretary of the CPC TU Committee, attended the ceremony and presented the letter of appointment to Professor Antilla. Li Junmin, Vice President and Member of the CPC TU Committee, presided over the event.

President Yue warmly welcomed Professor Antilla and expressed sincere gratitude for his joining. He highlighted the university’s commitment to its talent-driven strategy and emphasized that Professor Antilla’s appointment as Director of the Institute of Asymmetric Catalysis and Synthesis at the School of Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering would significantly enhance the university’s research capabilities and support its long-term development. He noted that as the university strives toward its goals of “upgrading to a higher-level university, applying for doctoral programs, and striving to be first-class,” strengthening talent support and fostering innovation remain critical.

Professor Antilla thanked the university for the warm reception and expressed his commitment to collaborating with colleagues to advance disciplinary development, scientific research, talent cultivation, and international cooperation.

Professor Antilla’s appointment marks a pivotal step in elevating the university’s academic strength, research excellence, and talent training quality, propelling the institution toward higher achievements.

Representatives from the university’s General Administrative Office, Organization Department, Research and Technology Department, Personnel Department, Financial Department, Logistics Service and Management Department, and the School of Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering attended the ceremony.

Expert Profile:

Jon Clarence Antilla: Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, MIT postdoctoral fellow, and formerly a professor at the University of South Florida. His research focuses on chiral organocatalysis, transition metal catalysis, novel stereoselective reaction methodologies, and drug development. He has published over 50 papers in top-tier journals, including J. Am. Chem. Soc. (10 papers) and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (10 papers), and holds 7 patents. He has received notable awards include the NSF CAREER Award, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Prize, Thieme Chemistry Journal Award, and Lucian F. Hunt Award.
