TU hosts 2024 Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory Animal Science and Technology Exchange Conference

From March 7th to 8th, the 2024 Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory Animal Science and Technology Exchange Conference was held at Taizhou Sunny Hotel. Organized by the Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory Animal Industry Association and hosted by TU’s School of Medicine, the event brought together nearly 400 experts, scholars, and representatives from enterprises and institutions both at home and abroad. A total of 43 enterprises related to laboratory animal production and research participated in on-site exhibitions and exchanges. The conference was presided over by Cao Xuan, Dean of the School of Medicine of TU.

2024 Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory Animal Science and Technology Exchange Conference

Li Junmin, Vice President and Member of the Party Committee of TU, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the university. She emphasized that the university would leverage this conference as an opportunity to advance three key initiatives:

Strengthen Platforms and Promote Sharing: Enhance laboratory animal resource libraries and open-access mechanisms to facilitate resource sharing, data interoperability, and technological complementarity, providing high-quality support for regional scientific research breakthroughs.

Emphasize Interdisciplinarity and Cultivate Talent: Promote deep integration of artificial intelligence, big data technology, and traditional laboratory animal research to foster high-caliber compound talents with both technical expertise and ethical awareness.

Deepen Cooperation and Seek Win-Win Outcomes: Collaborate with enterprises and medical institutions to build innovative consortia, aligning scientific research resources with market demands to comprehensively support Zhejiang’s goal of becoming a national innovation hub for the life and health industry.

Ying Huazhong, Chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory Animal Industry Association; Ke Xianfu, Director of the Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory Animal Management Office; and He Zhengming, Deputy Director of the National Laboratory Animal Expert Committee, delivered speeches on behalf of the provincial industry association.

Opening Ceremony speeches

The conference held award ceremonies for the Provincial Laboratory Animal Industry Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Contribution Award, Advanced Collectives and Individuals, the 5th Experimental Skills Competition and Outstanding Paper winners. TU’s School of Medicine was honored with the Advanced Collective Award, and teacher Wang Ting received the Advanced Individual Award.

The conference featured a main forum and a youth forum. The main forum invited Li Dali, Researcher at the School of Life Sciences of East China Normal University; Tian Bo, Director of the Medical Department and Dean of the Medical College of Wuhan University of Science and Technology; and Li Jun, “Qiu Shi Distinguished” Professor of Zhejiang University, to deliver academic reports titled “Development of Precision Gene-Editing Technology for Constructing Innovative Animal Models,” “Neural Circuit Mechanisms of Dopamine System Involvement in Emotional and Cognitive Empathy,” and “Establishment and Application of Hepatitis B Cirrhosis Disease Models,” respectively. The presentations were met with enthusiastic responses. The youth forum invited 30 guests from various provincial institutions to share their work, including five teachers from TU, such as Wang Jing’an, who presented outstanding papers.

Conference Flag Handover Ceremony

During the flag handover ceremony, TU passed the conference flag to the next host, the Jinhua Institute for Food and Drug Control.
