Taizhou University students earned one grand prize and two second prizes in the 19th “Challenge Cup” National Undergraduate Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition, setting a new record for the university. For the first time, TU also won the title of “Champion Star” in the national “Artificial Intelligence+” Special Competition, marking a historic breakthrough. The competition, jointly organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the All-China Students’ Federation, and the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, was successfully concluded at Nanjing University from October 31 to November 3.

This year, TU achieved its best-ever results in the Zhejiang Provincial “Challenge Cup” College Student Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, winning 1 gold, 7 silver, and 20 bronze awards. Four project teams advanced to the National Finals, among which three teams qualified for the on-site defense session, both marking the highest record in the university’s history.
Among them, the project “AI-Driven Intelligent Agents for Delivery of Medicine and Advanced Drugs” from the School of Pharmacy, supervised by faculty members Li Na, Wang Jianxin, and Chen Xue, won the first grand prize and the title of “Champion Star” in the “AI+” Challenge Track, making TU the only local university to secure the “Champion” title in this national “AI+” category.
The project “Smart Travel Without Boundaries—AI-Powered Metaverse Tourism Experience” from the School of Business, guided by faculty members Hu Feng, Zheng Ying, and Chen Binlan, won the second prize in the “AI+” Application Track.
The project “‘Ling-Ankle’ Rehabilitation Assistant: Ankle Joint Rehabilitation Robot” from the School of Intelligent Manufacturing, supervised by Professor Zhang Guo’an, won the second prize in the “Champion Challenge” Track.
The project “‘Xinglin Smart Diagnosis’—A Multimodal Fusion-Based Large Model for Intelligent TCM Disease-Specific Clinical Assistance” from the School of Artificial Intelligence, led by faculty members Guo Wenping, Wang Dandan, and Jin Jie, successfully advanced to the on-site defense session of the national finals.

The university attached great importance to the organization and preparation of this year’s “Challenge Cup” competition. University leaders made multiple visits to the preparation sites to gain first-hand insights into project progress, improve training conditions, and provide strong support for the participating teams. University Party Secretary Zhu Jian visited the teams during their preparation, offering on-site guidance and encouragement to faculty supervisors and students. Vice President Han Deman led faculty and students to collaborate with relevant institutions to strengthen project preparation.The University Youth League Committee systematically advanced project selection, refinement, and enhancement, while various schools worked in close coordination to provide full support for the competing teams. Each team pursued innovation with diligence and excellence, fully demonstrating the solidarity, determination, and pursuit of excellence of TU students.
Notably, during the national final’s “Champion Challenge” open defense, our team faced the competition of master’s and doctoral students from top universities across China with confidence and composure. Their outstanding presentation earned the highest score of the event, vividly showing the best of Taizhou students and highlighting the university’s solid foundation and steadfast commitment to cultivating innovative talent.

The “Challenge Cup” Competition has long upheld the philosophy of “advocating science, pursuing truth, studying diligently, innovating boldly, and embracing challenges.” Over the past three decades, it has grown into the largest, most prestigious, and most influential innovation competition for university students in China, earning the reputation of being the “Olympics” of college students’ scientific and technological innovation. This year’s competition attracted over 400,000 entries and more than 3 million students from more than 2,700 universities nationwide.
Building on the achievements of this competition, TU will continue to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, improve the organization and support system for science and technology competitions, and enhance the educational impact of competitions. The university will actively guide and encourage its students to participate in high-level innovation events, striving to cultivate high-quality, application-oriented talents with a deep sense of national commitment, pioneering spirit, and solid professional competence. In doing so, the university aims to make greater contributions to serving the national innovation-driven development strategy and writing a vibrant chapter in the story of Chinese modernization.
