The 2025 Annual Conference of Zhejiang Association of Foreign Languages and Literatures held

From November 21 to 23, the 2025 Annual Conference of Zhejiang Association of Foreign Languages and Literatures (ZAFLL) and the Academic Seminar on “Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and the Development of Foreign Language and Literature Disciplines” was held at our university. Zhu Jian, Secretary of Taizhou University Party Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. Jiang Chengyong, former Chairman of Zhejiang Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences Circles (ZJFHSSC), Ding Yi, President of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP), and Zhou Min, President of ZAFLL, delivered speeches respectively. The opening ceremony was hosted by Wang Gang, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages.

Centering on the theme of Xi Jinping Thought on Culture and the development of foreign language and literature disciplines, experts and scholars attending the conference discussed actively to enhance the dissemination of Chinese civilization and build Zhejiang into a pioneering demonstration zone for foreign language development.

Seven renowned experts were invited to deliver keynote speeches and share their academic achievements, including Professor Jiang Chengyong from Zhejiang Gongshang University (Cultural Modernization and Re-examination of “Chinese Learning as the Essence and Western Learning for Application”), Professor Wang Wenbin from Beijing Foreign Studies University (The Edification of Ideological Power is the Moat for Sustaining Foreign Language Disciplines), Professor Yin Qiping from Hangzhou Normal University (Culture· Community· General Readers· Pleasure: A Critical Logic Responding to the Crisis of Modernity), Professor Yang Feng from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Paradigm Revolution and Path Reconstruction of Area Studies from the Perspective of Knowledge Translation Studies), Professor Zheng Yongyan from Fudan University (Key Issues and Future Prospects of Foreign Language Education in the Digital-Intelligent Era), Professor Su Ping from South China University of Technology (Literary and Cultural (Re)production of Utopian Islands: The Performative Geographical Construction of the Shamian Colonial Enclave in Guangzhou in the Second Half of the 19th Century), and Professor Ren Kaixing from TU (The Art of Using “Tools” by Human Translators in the Context of Large Language Models ).

Editor-in-Chief Forum

Parallel sub-forums

The conference set up six parallel sub-forums, where participants exchanged academic insights on the topics of “Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics”, “Foreign Literature”, “Translation Studies”, “Comparative Literature and Cross-Cultural Studies”, “Foreign Language Pedagogy”, and “Country and Regional Studies”. A special Editor-in-Chief Forum was also organized. Wang Wenbin (Editor-in-Chief of Foreign Language Teaching and Research), Yang Feng (Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Foreign Language Studies), Zheng Yongyan (Editor-in-Chief of System), Su Ping (Editor-in-Chief of Island Studies Journal), and Zhou Min (Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Caribbean Studies) were invited to conduct interactive exchanges with the participants on journal topic selection, paper review and other related aspects.

The conference is hosted by Zhejiang Association of Foreign Languages and Literatures (ZAFLL), organized by the School of Foreign Languages of our university, and co-sponsored by Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. More than 140 experts and scholars from universities across Zhejiang province attended the event. The conference also received support from Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and Fudan University Press.
