On the evening of April 20th, the final of Taizhou University’s 19th “King of Mic” Singing Competition was held at the Music Hall of the School of Art and Design. Judges present at the final competition were Zhao Ziyuan, Deputy Director of Music Department of School of Art and Design, Chen Liuxing, a vocal music teacher from School of Art and Design, as well as Shen Di, Wang Peilei, and Liu Lijuan from the University Youth League Committee. More than 300 teachers and students from both campuses watched the competition.
The melody of youth is always accompanied by songs. After multiple rounds of auditions and quarter-finals, a total of 24 contestants stood out to participate in the final competition, bringing a wonderful audio-visual feast to the audience.
In the beginning, Jiang Yufei, the 18th “King of Mic” in the Folk Singing Group, ignited the audience’s enthusiasm with the melodious and emotional “Beautiful Awariguli”. Later singers from the Folk Singing Group started to present their performance. “Yimeng Mountain, My Eternal Parents” and “Hometown” are full of affection, “Forbidden Music” romance, while “For Art, for Love” and “Wandering Moon” yearning and longing for love. With a rich ethnic melody, “Can You Hear Me, My Love” expresses the soldier’s longing and love for his lover. “Yang Bailao” unfolds before the audience a real image of farmers who have suffered for a long time in the old rural society.
Subsequently, Pang Lingyang, the 18th “King of Mic” in the Pop Singing Group, kicked off the competition of pop music with “I Wait Till the Flowers Wither”, whose captivating singing moved the competition to its climax once again. A total of 16 contestants expressed their passion and sincerity with singing, such as “Give Me a Reason to Forget” by Wu Fan, “Let the Heavy Rain Fall” by Li Xinci, “Mr. Lonely” by Ma Zhiyan, “Diao” by He Rui, “Riding a White Horse” by Qiu Yu, “Time with Tears” by Jin Qianyu. The audience was immersed in their wonderful performance and the hall was filled with thunderous applause and endless cheers.
Finally, Tu Yisheng won “King of Mic” in the Folk Singing Group with “Forbidden Music”, while Wang Jianyun and Ye Xinran won second and third respectively. He Rui from the School of Pharmaceutical and Chemical Engineering won “King of Mic” in Pop Singing Group with his unique voice and solid singing skills.
The “King of Mic” Singing Competition, a campus cultural activity favored by students, has been held successively 19 times. This competition fully demonstrated young students’ energetic spirit when they felt the charm of music in showcasing themselves and pursuing their dreams, which has helped to create a positive and flourishing campus cultural atmosphere.
