National opera “Li Qingzhao” staged in TU

On the evening of May 11, the national opera “Li Qingzhao”, co-performed by Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and Zhejiang Performing Arts Group (Zhejiang Song and Dance Theater), was staged in TU, bringing a grand audio-visual feast to the audience. School leaders present at the activity were Lou Danqun, Xiang Fengri, and Cai Haijiang. Heads from various secondary schools and functional departments, representatives from Taizhou Music Association, and some alumni also watched the performance. Full of audience, the concert hall was bustling with excitement.

“Li Qingzhao” has won Large-scale Stage Drama and Work Creation Funding Project of the National Art Fund in 2024, Excellent Drama of the 5th China Opera Festival, and Project Sponsored by Zhejiang Culture and Art Development Fund. The opera is led by Zheng Peiqin, with Wang Qian specially invited to play Zhao Mingcheng and Duan Yongming playing Li Gefei. The play is based on the life story and literary creation of Li Qingzhao (1084-1155), a female lyricist from the Song Dynasty known as the first talented woman through the ages. Through the form of national opera, it has combined realism and romanticism to vividly depict the ups and downs in her life, as well as her patriotism and the moving love story with Zhao Mingcheng. The performers’ acting and singing skills were highly infectious so that the audience could experience the historical and cultural features of the Song Dynasty via the opera, and the hall burst into rounds of applause.

The event, co-sponsored by Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang Performing Arts Group, TU Publicity Department, and TU School of Art and Design, is one of the series of “Elegant Art into Campus” activities promoted by the university this year. It has not only enriched the campus cultural life, but also enabled teachers and students to feel the charm and value of traditional culture. By inheriting and promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture through the form of art, it has helped the students to experience and spread beauty, which is of much help in achieving the integration of aesthetic education and ideological and political education, and further demonstrating the value of aesthetic education.
