A business English communication skills study tour to University of Malaya

After a month-long study, 18 students from TU ended their business English communication skills study tour to the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They not only gained knowledge and skills, but also gained valuable experience of cross-cultural communication and profound life insights.

At the University of Malaya, students studied in-depth business English communication theory and practice, including business negotiation skills and cross-cultural communication strategies. Under the professional guidance of teachers there, they improved their language skills and practiced critical thinking and practical application skills through simulated business scenarios, role-playing, case studies and group discussions.

The study visit is a combination of academic exploration and cultural experience. In the multicultural land of Malaysia, students experienced different living customs, food cultures and religious beliefs. Participating in cultural expeditions, enterprise visits and festivals, they learned to respect and appreciate cultural diversity, and enhanced their confidence and ability in cross-cultural communication.

This visit is also a platform for teamwork and personal growth. Students built deep friendships and learned to play their roles in the team by helping and supporting each other. Facing language barriers and cultural differences, they demonstrated their problem-solving abilities and enhanced their adaptability and self-efficacy.

The team leader, Mr. Yao Xiaoguang of the School of Foreign Languages, said when reviewing the trip, “I have the honor to record every bit of this visit. From classroom learning to cultural experience, from team building to personal reflection, every moment is worth treasuring and sharing. We have documented the students’ learning and life by writing newsletters, and taking photos and videos, and have shared our experiences with everyone through the school’s official account, campus website and social media platforms.”

Although one month is a short period of time, the visit has had a profound impact on the students. TU’s International Exchange and Cooperation Department expects the students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned and become business communication experts.
