The 21st TU Student Reading Festival, jointly organized by the University Youth League Committee and the Library, ended on a high note at the Jiaojiang Campus library on November 26. Attendees of the closing ceremony included Li Junmin, University Vice President and Member of the CPC TU Committee, Xiang Fengri, Deputy Secretary of the CPC TU Committee, and representatives from various departments, including the Student Affairs Department, Teaching Administration Department, Academic Disciplines Department, International Exchange and Cooperation Department, University Youth League Committee, and leaders from the Party Committees (General Branches) and Youth League Branches of various schools as well as the Library. A number of teachers and students also participated in the ceremony.
The ceremony opened with a poem recitation titled “Read to Meet a Better Self” by the University Readers’ Service Association. The performance, marked by its emotional depth and dynamic delivery, painted a vivid and inspiring picture, setting a contemplative and celebratory tone for the ceremony.
In the event, Li Junmin extended congratulations on the festival’s success. She commended the event for receiving robust support and active participation from teachers and students across departments and schools. She highlighted its role in invigorating student associations, enhancing creativity, and encouraging effective use of library resources. These efforts, she noted, manifested the comprehensive quality of TU students. She urged students to make the most of their college years by fostering a love for reading and research, thinking critically, acting with diligence, and cultivating reading habits that can enrich both their intellect and character, preparing them to become valuable contributors to society.
Awards presented to Library Frequent Visitors
A book donation ceremony was held as part of the festivities. Professor Shao Weiguo, former head of TU’s United Front Work Department and faculty member of the School of Foreign Languages, donated nearly 500 books to enrich the library’s foreign language collection. The books will be housed in the reference room of the School of Foreign Languages to support teaching, research, and talent development. Li Tao, Party Secretary of the School of Foreign Languages, formally accepted the donation, while Yang Lingyun, Deputy Director of the Library, presented a certificate of appreciation.
The ceremony also honored award recipients in categories such as Reading Star, Library Frequent Visitor, and Excellent Organization Award. University leaders, including Xiang Fengri, Deputy Secretary of the CPC TU Committee, Jin Linghong, Director of the Teaching Administration Department, Zhu Liu, Director of the Academic Disciplines Department, Wang Ling, Party Secretary of the Library, and Wang Linjun, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Department, presented the awards. Shao Xinchen, a finance major of Grade 2022 in the School of Business and a Reading Star awardee, shared a heartfelt speech about personal growth and building friendships through reading.
In his closing remarks, Wu Shiyong, Director of the Library, summarized the festival’s achievements. He highlighted this year’s innovative “offline + online + college + community” model, which encompassed more than 40 diverse reading activities. These initiatives, organized by faculty and students across schools, were meaningful, engaging, and impactful. The festival, with its broad reach and profound themes, created a vibrant reading culture, allowing participants to sow seeds of reading and reap the rewards of intellectual exploration.
The Reading Festival has come to a close, but TU’s Youth League Committee and Library will continue to innovate reading activities for students. They aim to accelerate the development of a reading promotion service system, enhance the supply of high-quality reading materials, inspire students’ interest in reading, improve students’ reading literacy, and support the cultivation of values and character development, thus fostering a new culture of reading and learning across the campus.
