The 4th National College Opera “Youth Opera” successfully held at TU

On April 1st, the 4th National College Opera “Youth Opera” successfully came to a close at TU. Centered around the theme of “century-old opera and youthful expression,” the opera competition was fierce and it blossomed with the enthusiasm of 447 universities for traditional Chinese opera. The Opera Society of TU, with the responsibility as the organizer and the sincerity as the contestants, delivered a brilliant answer in the dialogue between tradition and youth. Its selected Yue Opera “Taming the Princess: Rushing into the Palace” won the second prize in the national competition with the second place finish; More importantly, it has demonstrated its youthful responsibility by making “three historical breakthroughs” — for the first time representing TU to host a national college opera competition, achieving the “dual track of hosting and participating,” and ranking first in the national college Yue opera ranking list, which has injected “strength of TU” into the cause of inheriting Chinese traditional opera.

37 university teams entered the finals. Yue Opera “Taming the Princess: Rushing into the Palace” from TU vividly reproduced the classic play. From precise mastery of every move and gesture to delicate interpretation of every frown and smile, it has inherited the essence of Yue opera’s “combining singing with acting” and meticulously depicted the subtle combat between the princess and her husband. Wu opera “Burning the Capital: Scary Soul on the Way Home” from Zhejiang Transportation Technician College won the championship, while Hubei University of Technology won the second prize with its solid foundation. Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Ocean University and other universities won the third prize and excellent awards.

As an inheritor of college opera, TU’s Opera Society has achieved a “triple leap”: from a regional club to a national event organizer in identity, from a single performance to planning, execution and participation in ability, and from the campus stage to cross-regional cultural radiation in influence. During the event, as the organizer, it has combined online voting with expert reviews to break through the boundaries of traditional Chinese opera art. From scheduled planning to promotion, from the smooth running of the competition to the perfect ending, the members of the Opera Society have demonstrated their passion for artistic creation at every stage and presented a professional opera event. Bei Han, head of the Opera Society, said, “Awards are not only honors, but also responsibilities. We are willing to be the disseminators of the spark of Chinese opera, making the compassion of doctors to resonate with the craftsmanship of opera actors.”

In spite of the closing gong ringing, the cultural journey of young students disseminating Chinese opera never stops. TU Opera Society, as both the organizer and inheritor, has demonstrated its reverence for tradition and youthful spirit of opening up new horizons. The grand event is not only a competition in traditional Chinese opera, but also a cultural relay that crosses the generation gap, making the charm of Chinese opera to flourish in the blood of youth.
