International students attend “Ancient Long Street, Culture Going Global” Activity

On the afternoon of May 10th, Wang Aiqin, Deputy Director (Chair) of the International Exchange & Cooperation Department, led more than 30 international students from 15 countries (including Rwanda, Uzbekistan, Equatorial Guinea, Bangladesh, and Morocco) to Fuxing Pavilion on Luqiao Long Street to participate in Taizhou Overseas Chinese International Cultural Exchange Activity —“Ancient Long Street, Culture Going Global.”

The activity includes the ceremony of awarding “Luqiao Overseas Promotion Officer” appointment letters, declaring the proposal of “Continuation of Business Culture, Cohesion of Overseas Chinese,” artistic performance, and visits to the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum. As the host of the artistic performance, Sotzoldiev Bilolbek (Chinese name: Chen Long) from Uzbekistan won unanimous praise from the audience present, and was appointed as “Luqiao Overseas Promotion Officer” to contribute himself to the globalization of Luqiao culture as well as Taizhou culture. The artistic performance was full of excitement. Otgonbaatar Uranzaya (Chinese name: Xinyan) from Mongolia and Isaac Irabisohoza (Chinese name: Li Cheng) from Rwanda presented the English song “Perfect” together. Their beautiful voice, accompanied by guitar, conveyed the charm of youth. Badoglu Selin Nisa (Chinese name: Lin Lin) from Turkey brought the dance “Feel My Rhythm” in Chinese Hanfu, perfectly integrating the oriental classical charm with the modern dance style, which stunned the whole audience.

After the performance, the international students walked into the Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum for a visit. The rich and diverse exhibits, such as exquisite gray carvings, exquisite oil-paper umbrellas, and unique traditional blue-patterned cloth dyeing, made the international students dazzled and occasionally exclaimed in amazement. With a strong interest in Taizhou’s intangible cultural heritage, they listened attentively to the cultural introduction, carefully observed every exhibit, and raised questions from time to time.

The activity is another vivid practice of Journey to the East by “International Xu Xiake” from TU. By participating in cultural exchanges, international students have stepped out of the campus and walked into the streets and alleys, which has enhanced their understanding of Taizhou folk culture and local customs, further promoted cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, helped Taizhou culture to “go global,” and done a better job in international dissemination.
