The 103rd session of the “Hearing Youth 1139” series, jointly organized by Xinhu College and the University Student Union, was held on October 30 at Xinhu College in the Jiaojiang campus. Xiang Fengri, Deputy Secretary of Taizhou University Party Committee, attended the event. He was accompanied by relevant leaders from the Student Affairs Department, the Youth League Committee, and Xinhu College, engaging in a face-to-face dialogue with 25 students from the college to explore new pathways for its development.

Symposium in Progress
Centered on the theme “College Development, Discussing with You,” the session focused on key issues and future directions for the college. In his opening remarks, Xiang Fengri emphasized that a college is not merely a place for knowledge acquisition but also a hub for pursuing youthful ideals and cultural heritage, its evolution deeply intertwined with the growth of every student. He encouraged students to be both grounded in honing their practical skills and ambitious in chasing their dreams, urging them to stay true to their original purpose for learning and maintain a proactive stance on their journey of growth.
Drawing on feedback gathered from prior research among students and faculty regarding development challenges, Xiang Fengri shared his insights. Addressing the college’s educational mission, he analyzed current shortcomings while offering concrete suggestions for students’ academic and personal development. He called on all students to actively participate in shaping the college’s future as stakeholders, working together to strengthen its foundation.
The interactive session was lively, with students actively raising questions and suggestions concerning student leadership, academic progress, and college services. Topics included motivating student cadres, overcoming hesitancy in communicating with faculty advisors, requests for expanding capacity in specialized courses, adding accessible practical courses, and creating cross-disciplinary collaboration platforms. Drawing on his extensive experience, Xiang Fengri addressed each point thoughtfully. He affirmed the value of the faculty advisor system, encouraging students to initiate communication with advisors in a friendly manner to break down barriers. He advised students to leverage the college’s resources to explore their interests, discover their potential, and clarify their goals through practice. For students uncertain about career paths, he suggested considering factors like industry prospects and regional advantages to develop a sensible approach to employment and career choices.

Concluding the event, Xiang Fengri expressed his strong expectations for the college’s future. He stressed the need to focus on refining elite education and cultivating top-tier talent, continuously optimizing the educational pathway. “Student needs guide the college’s development, and student participation is the core driver of its progress,” he stated. He encouraged students to make the most of the college’s resources, maintain intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, enhance their core competencies through self-directed learning, build character through responsibility, and achieve well-rounded growth through integrating learning, reflection, and practice.
