Report meeting on Guo Wenbiao’s deeds held

Guo Wenbiao, a National People’s Congress deputy, National Model Worker, National Moral Model, and school moral education mentor, visited Taizhou University Linhai and Jiaojiang campuses to deliver a report on his exemplary deeds to students on November 13. Cai Haijiang, a member of the university Party committee and head of the Publicities Department, attended the event. Zhang Meifen, executive deputy head of the United Front Work Department, and Yang Qifu, head of the Student Affairs Department, respectively presided over the report sessions.

Report Session

Guo Wenbiao, an ordinary fisherman from Xiaoshatou Village in Shitang Town, Wenling City, began his remarkable journey of lifesaving at the age of 15. For over four decades, he has selflessly dedicated himself to maritime rescue work, often disregarding personal danger and never seeking compensation. To date, he has devoted more than 12,000 hours to voluntary search and rescue operations at sea, responding to hundreds of emergencies. His courageous efforts have saved over 2,000 lives on the verge of despair and preserved tens of millions of yuan in property.

Widely revered as the “Guardian Spirit of the Sea” and the “Maritime Lifesaver,” Guo has been honored with numerous distinctions, including National Moral Model, National Heroic and Courageous Model, China Charity Award, the International Maritime Organization’s “Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea,” and the “China Charity Award—Most Compassionate Charity Role Model.”

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, he has been elected as a deputy to both the National People’s Congress and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress. Guo was also invited to attend the military parade commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, as well as the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. His life and work stand as a lasting testament to selflessness, bravery, and service.

Guo Wenbiao Shares Stories of Maritime Rescue

At the report meeting, Guo Wenbiao began with his heart-stirring maritime rescue stories spanning over 40 years. In plain and vivid language, he recounted his legendary life journey—from extreme poverty to establishing a “Maritime Rescue Station” and saving over 2,000 lives.

Known as the “Maritime 110,” he would rush to the scene at the first moment whenever he received a distress call, regardless of the time. In the face of concerns from family and friends and skepticism from the outside world, he always stayed true to his original aspirations and kept his mission firmly in mind. He never allowed any personal gain to interfere with his rescue efforts, consistently dedicating himself to the cause of maritime rescue with a spirit of selflessness.

Report Session

During the lecture, he remarked, “We only live once in this world, and life is the most precious thing. If we can do one more good deed, we should do it.” He called on college students to cherish life, maintain a kind heart, and be enthusiastic about public welfare. He encouraged them to actively spread positive energy in their daily lives and hoped that young people would actively engage in the cause of marine conservation.

Student Q&A Session

During the lecture, the students were deeply touched by the moving stories shared. In the subsequent Q&A session, drawing from his own experiences, he thoughtfully responded to their questions and offered personal insights. He encouraged everyone to study hard, live meaningfully, and strive to contribute their youth, wisdom, and strength toward the realization of the Chinese Dream—the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He also urged them to apply their knowledge and efforts to repay the nurturing they have received from the Party and the people.

This event was jointly organized by TU’s Publicities Department, United Front Work Department, and Student Affairs Department.
