Against the backdrop of driving drums and cheering crowds, the 2026 National University Dragon and Lion Dance Championships took place from 13 to 16 July at the Guilin Medical University Sports Centre. The high-profile tournament brought together over 1,000 student athletes from 51 universities across China. Taizhou University was represented by its dragon dance squad, led by faculty coaches Luo Xiwen and Ye Ting.

Despite blistering summer heat inside the venue, the team demonstrated remarkable composure and stamina across multiple demanding rounds. Their technical precision, seamless synchronicity, and consistent execution earned them the runner-up title in the compulsory dual-dragon category and third place in the freestyle routine.

Founded in 2009, TU’s dragon dance team has long been dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional heritage through rigorous training routines. This latest national success marks a fitting reward for years of dedicated practice, adding a bright new chapter to the university’s traditional sporting pedigree.
