Taizhou University held opening ceremonies for its 2026 Freshmen Leadership Training Camp on 7 and 8 September across both the Jiaojiang and Linhai campuses with the aim to provide rigorous and targeted ideological and political guidance for incoming students and lay a solid foundation for the development of student leadership. The events were attended by Yang Qifu, Head of the Student Affairs, along with leadership representatives from the School of Humanities, the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Teacher Education (Physical Education), the School of Marxism, and the San Bernardino Institute of Technology, as well as freshmen counsellors and freshmen trainees. The ceremonies were co-chaired by Chen Binlan, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Business School, and Gao Hanwen, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, at their respective venues.

The events opened with the national anthem, followed by an overview of the curriculum, training objectives, and disciplinary regulations. Three student representatives took the floor to reflect on their initial university experiences, expressing their resolve to study diligently and assume active civic roles within the student community. They called on fellow trainees to make full use of the opportunity, take on responsibilities, and cultivate practical leadership skills.

In his opening remarks, Yang Qifu outlined the expected role of student leaders, encouraging the cohort to pursue integrity, academic rigour, and dedicated public service. He urged them to act as bridges between the student body and faculty, setting an example in campus culture and academic discipline to support the university’s ongoing development.

Following the ceremony, the instructional programme got underway. Wang Zheng, the former Vice President, and Yang Qifu delivered the inaugural lectures at the respective campuses. Wang explored the historical lineage of Taizhou culture, while Yang addressed core competency building for student representatives, framing his talk around the university motto of moral cultivation and timely learning. The interactive lectures generated lively discussion, setting an engaged tone for the sessions ahead.

Thematic lectures

According to the university, the Camp serves as a concrete initiative to implement its fundamental mission of fostering moral character and student-centred education, reaffirm its commitment to undergraduate education as the core foundation of the university, and build “the institution that cares most for its students”. Running from 7 to 10 September, the four-day program introduces an innovative “three-in-one” development model combining thematic lectures, interactive topical seminars, and on-site field teaching, systematically enhancing the comprehensive qualities and leadership capabilities of the incoming student leaders, and providing a solid platform for the growth and development of young talents.
