Prof. Shen Manhong, Dean of the Institute of Ecological Civilization of Zhejiang A&F University, Zhejiang Provincial Special-grade Expert and Vice President of the Chinese Society of Ecological Economics, came to Taizhou University to guide the application for National Social Science Foundation projects in the afternoon of April 18th. Le Chuanyong, President and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Taizhou University Committee, attended the lecture and delivered a speech. The event was presided over by Han Deman, Vice President of Taizhou University. Deans in charge of scientific research in each academic school of humanities and social sciences and the applicants for the National Social Science Foundation projects attended the lecture.
Prof. Shen shared his experience of applying for the National Social Science Foundation projects and gave specific guidance on improving the quality of the application. He maintained that in carrying out research in the humanities and social sciences, the spirit of social science research is important. First, seek truth from facts and strictly abide by academic norms; second, be innovative and explore the significance of the humanities and social sciences; third, work with teammates and complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses; fourth, be willing to work hard; fifth, be courageous and resilient and not easily got discouraged. He also attached great importance to the improvement of the quality of the project application. First, focus on the research direction, and pay attention to the preliminary accumulation; second, carefully read the application announcement and prompts, and make enough “sharpening” efforts; third, pay attention to the frequent questions and notes, and write in accordance with the application disciplines, topic selection issues and evidence, research content, innovation, research methods, text aesthetics, etc.
In the second stage of the lecture, Prof. Shen gave specific guidance to some of the participating teachers’ application forms, and put forward some professional and practical writing methods and techniques.
President Le Chuanyong expressed his heartfelt thanks to Prof. Shen for his professional and detailed academic guidance. He pointed out that there is a causal relationship between projects, achievements, and awards, and the three are intertwined to achieve mutual success. Prof. Shen’s lecture not only helps to improve the quality of writing application forms, but also provides specific methods for teachers to clarify the direction and path of scientific research and realize career development.

Shen Manhong, male, born in February 1963, Ph.D., professor, doctoral supervisor, former President of Ningbo University, former Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang A&F University Committee, Representative of the 13th National People’s Congress, is now the Dean as well as the Chief Expert of the Institute of Ecological Civilization of Zhejiang A&F University. He has been selected as one of the leading philosophical and social science talents of the National “Ten Thousand People Plan”, one of the “Four Groups of Talents” and National Famous Cultural Masters, a memeber of the “New Century Outstanding Talents Supporting Program” of the Ministry of Education, and the middle-aged and young expert with outstanding contributions in Zhejiang Province. He is also a candidate for the first level and key funding of the “151 Talents of the New Century” in Zhejiang Province, and an expert of special rank in Zhejiang Province. As Vice President of the Chinese Society of Ecological Economics, he has long been engaged in research work in the fields of resource economics, environmental economics and ecological economics. He has presided over more than 70 major and key projects of the National Social Science Foundation, and published over 300 academic papers and over 40 monographs. 57 of his achievements have been positively endorsed by the provincial and ministerial leaders, or adopted by the National People’s Congress and provincial and ministerial governments. He has been honored with 20 scientific research awards at the provincial and ministerial levels, among which there are 2 second prizes of Ministry of Education's Award for Scientific Research Achievements of Higher Education Institutions (in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences), and 6 first prizes of Zhejiang Provincial Award for Outstanding Achievements in Philosophy and Social Sciences.
