Upon TU’s invitation, Prof. Yao Weixin, Chairman of the Yangtze River Delta New Liberal Arts Education Major Accreditation Alliance and Deputy Director of the Teaching Committee of Donghua University, gave a lecture on April 24th, with a view to help the TU working staff better understand the connotation and process of accreditation, promote the accreditation of new liberal arts education majors, and continuously improve the professional construction. The lecture was presided over by Li Jianjun, Vice President and Memember of the CPC Taizhou University Standing Committee.
The title of Yao’s lecture was “Exploration, Practice and Reflection on the Accreditation of Liberal Arts Majors”. The opening chapter comprehensively sorted out and analyzed the promotion of professional accreditation at the national and provincial levels, and pointed out the difficulties for passing accreditation on new liberal arts education. He interpreted with illustrations the exploration and practice of some universities and the Yangtze River Delta New Liberal Arts Education Major Accreditation Alliance in the field, and dug deeply into the general problems on the standard-setting and system construction of it.
The accreditation of new liberal arts majors should have a clear position orientation, be based on national conditions and system, and fully implement the Party’s education policy; it is also necessary to pursue quality-first principle, create a Chinese brand and make it internationally advanced, thus enabling students to continuously evolve after receiving the education, and making the accreditation more valuable and rewarding; besides, we need to all along ensure it is value-added and simultaneously OBE-based by grasping the key links, strengthening vocational ability and streamlining procedures, focusing accreditation on the gains of students, Yao emphasized. His report is practical and feasible, which is of great significance for the university to prepare for the accreditation.
Vice President Li Jianjun made a concluding speech. He gave a high appraisal to the work of the new Liberal Arts education professional certification Alliance, and put forward three ideas: first, blazing a trail in the new liberal arts professional accreditation is worth praising and following; secondly, the Yangtze River Delta education professional accreditation shows an awareness to set a benchmark for the country; thirdly, the dedication to education and the noble feelings of educators count. He hoped that all participants of the meeting can digest the successful experiences of other universities, and continuously promote TU’s major construction of new liberal arts in line with the high standards and strict requirements, contributing to the university’s new liberal arts construction and the four new constructions.
