Professor Chen Guangting delivers a lecture on educational transformation

Professor Chen Guangting, a member of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Excellence Awardee, and former President of TU and Zhejiang University of Water Resources and Electric Power, delivered a special lecture titled “Educational Transformation in the Digital Intelligence Era” at the invitation of TU at the International Conference Hall on the afternoon of May 9. The event was hosted by Li Jianjun, Vice President and Party Committee Member of TU.. TU organized a “Teacher Competency Enhancement Program” training event to advance digital transformation in education and explore pathways for the deep integration of digital intelligence (DI) technologies with teaching and learning.

Using the challenges and opportunities presented by generative artificial intelligence (AI) to education as his starting point, Professor Chen systematically elaborated on the core logic of educational transformation in the DI era. He pointed out that the rapid development of generative AI technology is reshaping educational scenarios, making the paradigm shift from knowledge transmission to capability cultivation an inevitable trend. At the level of teaching content, AI technology can enable data-driven personalized learning path design, breaking away from the traditional “one-size-fits-all” teaching model.

Regarding teaching methodologies, new forms such as blended learning and project-based learning will become mainstream, driving the transformation of classrooms from “teaching-centered” to “learning-centered.” Professor Chen emphasized that teachers in the DI era need to evolve from knowledge transmitters into learning facilitators and innovative designers. Drawing on his own research, he noted that teachers should proactively master the application strategies of AI tools to optimize teaching design and enhance lesson preparation efficiency, while simultaneously focusing on cultivating students’ critical thinking and digital ethics awareness.

Chen asserted that educational transformation in the DI era must fundamentally prioritize strengthening the nurturing role of education. “Artificial intelligence empowers education, while education imbues AI with its soul,” he stated. He advocated for reinforcing knowledge-integrated education, enhancing social-emotional learning, and constructing new types of teacher-student relationships for the intelligent age. The goal, he stressed, is to cultivate: students’ abilities to correctly perceive the world, life, and themselves; their capacity for value realization; and their aesthetic appreciation, integrative thinking, and empathy skills—all essential for the future.

Special Lecture on DI-Empowered Educational Transformation

The lecture was broadcast live via video link to both the Jiaojiang and Linhai campuses. Nearly 200 attendees participated, including vice deans for academic affairs from secondary schools, educational administrators, teaching supervisors, faculty representatives, and all staff members from the Teaching Affairs Department.

The educational transformation in the DI era represents not merely a technological upgrade but a systemic reconstruction of educational philosophies and talent cultivation models. Taking this lecture as a catalyst, TU will further explore new DI-enabled educational paradigms with distinctive characteristics suited to a regional university, aiming to contribute to the high-quality development of education in the region.
