Professor Duan Wenqi from School of Business published research results in Journal of Business Research

Recently, Professor Duan Wenqi's latest research results "Be alert to dangers: Collapse and avoidance strategies of platform ecosystems" has been officially accepted and has published online by the international high-level academic Journal ---- Journal of Business Research.

The study investigates the evolution of platform ecosystems. Different from previous studies, it has examined their decline. It highlights the decline as another potential business pattern that cannot be ignored. Unlike general corporate decline, a systemic collapse will result in irreversible outcomes for the organization. At a time of high uncertainty, a systemic collapse calls for new scientific explanations.

Based on relevant theories concerning platform ecosystems and network dynamics, the research introduces a nonlinear model and finds out that the development of a mutualistic network of users shows both positive and negative feedback paths, with the extreme case of the latter collapsing. The paper further identifies the conditions of platform ecosystem collapse, and demonstrates the formation of collapse risk-avoidance strategies through a simulation example.

By shedding light on the micro-process of user network dynamics, the research illustrates the strategic feasibility of avoiding the risk of collapse through dynamic regulation, and provides researchers and decision-makers with a new perspective on bottom-line thinking, which has crucial theoretical and practical significance.

Journal of Business Research, one of the most influential journals in the global business field, belongs to JCR Region I, with the latest impact factor of 10.969.
