Recently, the full text of "University-city Community: A New Paradigm of Symbiotic Relationship between Local Applied Undergraduate Universities and Cities" was reprinted by Higher Education (No. 11, 2022) in China Social Science Excellence.

Starting from the connotation of University-city Community, the identification and confirmation of its multiple subjects, the paper analyzes and compares the University-city Community and the classic Triple Helix Theory, and then points out that University-city Community is a new paradigm of symbiotic relationship between local applied undergraduate universities and cities. Based on the running practice of China’s local applied undergraduate universities and the dynamic game balance of power among the three parties of government, industry and education, the paper constructs four internal integration mechanisms and four external stability mechanisms. The former includes value integration mechanism, interest balance mechanism, information sharing mechanism and system creation mechanism, while the latter includes the Party's political integration mechanism, local government incentive mechanism, knowledge production coordination mechanism and social participation driving mechanism. The study is an exploration for the practical route to promote mutual integration of values, mutual embedding of strategies, structural coupling, interest integration and collaborative governance of the University-city Community.

The paper, originally published in Research in Higher Education of Engineering (No. 4, 2022), is the research result based on our university’s vivid practice of building the University-city Community. It is completed by Zhou Liangkui, director of Research Office of Taizhou University, under the guidance of Professor Shi Qiuheng of Xiamen University.

The theoretical achievements of building the University-city Community are reprinted in the full text, which indicates that our university’s reform is not only innovative in developmental path and educational mode, but also has enlightening significance for the theoretical research of applied higher education.
