Three TU disciplines entered the top 500 of the world first-class disciplines

Recently, ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, a professional institution of higher education evaluation, officially released Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2023. In the list, the three disciplines of ecology, chemistry, and materials science and engineering of our university entered the top 500 in the world, ranking amongst 201-300, 301-400 and 401-500 respectively. Among them the latter two entered the list for the first time this year. The first ranked amongst 301-400 in 2022, and improved to 201-300 this year with 16 universities in the country entering the top 300, and only 2—Zhejiang University and Taizhou University—in Zhejiang Province. In the ranking of chemistry subjects, 136 universities in China entered the top 400, including 9 universities in Zhejiang Province. When it comes to the ranking of the materials science and engineering discipline, a total of 186 universities in China entered the top 500, and 14 of them are in Zhejiang Province.

In recent years, the university has established the leading position of discipline construction, built disciplines on industry, optimized the discipline layout based on the development needs of Taizhou "456" advanced industrial cluster, and stimulated the new momentum of discipline development. We have been adhered to a combination of both internal training and external introduction to build a high-level disciplinary team. By strengthening the atmosphere for scientific research and paying close attention to landmark achievements, we have comprehensively promoted the construction of discipline connotation, and the influence of discipline continues to increase.

It is reported that 2023 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects covers 55 disciplines, involving the five major fields of science, engineering, life sciences, medicine and social sciences. The ranking targets more than 5,000 universities around the world, with more than 1,900 universities from 104 countries and regions appearing on the list of various disciplines. The ranking index system, including the number of important journal papers, the impact of paper standardization, the proportion of international collaborative papers, the number of papers in top journals and the number of authoritative awards won by faculty members, etc., is one of the most influential and authoritative university rankings in the world.
