Good news! Two works selected for the 14th National Art Works Exhibition

Recently, the results of the 14th National Art Works Exhibition were announced. Two works from TU’s School of Art and Design were selected, showcasing our institution’s strength in the field of artistic creation.

Works by Professor Zhang Tingbo and Associate Professor Xu Haijun from School of Art and Design of TU were selected for different exhibition areas in this national art exhibition. Professor Zhang Tingbo’s serial painting “Rural SentimentI Was Born in a Small Mountain Village” was selected for the Comprehensive Artworks section, while Associate Professor Xu Haijun’s “DerivedBlue NO.4” was chosen for the Comprehensive Material Painting section.

Professor Zhang Tingbo’s work consists of nine paper-based heavy-color paintings, measuring 35cm X 50cm X 9, created in 2023. The work vividly depicts the growth story of a boy in a northern mountain village in the 1980s, based on the author’s childhood experiences. It not only expresses nostalgia for the lost childhood and relatives but also showcases the significant changes in mountain village life in the new era, embodying a profound sentiment of “not forgetting one’s roots”.

Associate Professor Xu Haijun’s work was inspired by the ruins of a century-old mansion after it was destroyed by fire. The work utilizes the unique relationship between paper and fire, with orderly arranged charred edges of paper, to present philosophical reflections on the cycle of life and the accumulation of time. The piece contains an understanding of life and an interpretation of resilience and hope.

The National Art Works Exhibition is held every five years and is jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the China Artists Association. It is the highest level and most authoritative comprehensive exhibition in the Chinese art community. This edition not only displays the latest achievements in contemporary Chinese art but also provides an important platform for outstanding art talents.

In recent years, our School of Art and Design has achieved numerous accomplishments in teaching, research, and creation. In the past two years, the school has achieved seven national-level projects and five ones funded by the Ministry of Education. The achievements in the national exhibition further demonstrate TU’s strong support for discipline construction and the dedication of all faculty members to their creative work, making an important contribution to the high-quality development of the university.
