Chen Mingyuan, from Excellence Class, Ideological and Political Education of 2020, is a "scholar" who ranks first in her major in intellectual achievement and comprehensive assessment, and won a national scholarship. She said that her strength was she knew what she needs and what she could do. She was not afraid of difficulties after setting her goal.
In this edition of “Honor Student”, we will get to know the cheerful, confident and motivated Chen Mingyuan.
Taizhou University is a regular school for most of the students, but is an “old friend" to Chen since her childhood for it is the place where her parents graduated as alumni of the 1993 major of history and geography, and this school is more than familiar to her. After university entrance exam, she decisively chose this school, and became her parents' junior schoolmate. "It's a pretty cool to go to the same university as my parents." Chen said.
Since both of her parents were junior high school teachers of society and history, Chen often listened to their discussions on current affairs at table when she was a child, and went to school listening to their lectures from time to time. Thanks to the influence, she developed interest on it in her childhood. After enrolling, she studied so hard that she succeeded in changing her major and entered the Civics and Political Science Excellence class with the first place in the written exam and interview at the end of her freshman year
The university life is lively and colorful, but Chen put study in the first place. Her academic performance is top notch with a GPA of 4.06. In her sophomore year, she ranked first in her major in both intellectual and general test scores, and awarded with the scholarships at national and school level, and won titles such as the "Merit Student" of the university in the academic year of 2021. She made excellent performance partly for her good memory, and more importantly for analyzing and summarizing her study methods to increase her learning efficiency. "Learning is a lifelong journey. knowledge can enrich your soul and widen your horizon, so you better understand the world." This is Chen's view on learning.
Chen wore many harts: she served as the monitor of Excellence Class of Ideological and Political Education of 2020, the assistant of Class 2 of Ideological and Political Education of 2022, the director of the Public Relations Department of Yayan University, and the deputy director of the Cultural Development Center of the Self-Management Association of Guangzhou Academy of Literature. "I want to experience more things to hone myself, because no training, no growth", she said this about her multiple positions as a student leader.
She served as the class president in her freshman year. After entering a new class of a new major, she chose to continuously exercise her ability and serve her classmates. Chen encountered a lot of challenges in the new class for she was a "newcomer" and was uncredited at first. But she did not back down. Instead, she managed to complete each task successfully. For instance, she was considerate enough to prepare gifts for each of her classmates on their special days to enhance class unity. "The class president is like the rudder of a class, and you can't be afraid of trouble; sometimes you have to 'find trouble' and do your job impeccably. And then you will be backed up by more and more people. With this conscientiousness and responsibility, she won the unanimous affirmation of her teachers and students as the class president.
Chen is dedicated to her work. She organized activities to liven up the atmosphere for the freshmen she served as a class assistant, persuaded truants into going back to classes, and shared her learning skills with her junior schoolmates. "Take every task seriously, and do the best job within my ability." This is Chen’s opinion on her work.
In addition to her study and work, Chen also participated in innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. She followed some seniors to participate in some competitions for innovation credits in the second semester of her sophomore year. Later on, she learned about micro-courses in the course of Modern Educational Technology, and became aware that she was interested in this field. So she took part in the micro-class competition in the multimedia competition for college students with her final assignment, and made it to the provincial competition all the way.
Chen's micro-lesson "Psychological Analysis of Fraudulent Tactics" is the only project that entered the final defense in the micro-lesson category of the 21st Zhejiang University Multimedia Competition. She recruited and expanded the team as the team leader, and invited a student who was good at voice acting and another adept at video editing to join the team, enlarging the force from a team of 3 to 5. Under the guidance of her teachers, they kept polishing and modifying their works, and finally won the second prize in the provincial competition.
In the just-finished 4th Zhejiang University Student Sports Industry Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, our school's project "Dance before children" won the third prize in the innovation category, a historical breakthrough in the field, and Chen was also a member of the project. In her view, college is a training ground for self-improvement. Academics is important indeed, but it matters to make time for trying new things. Competition is uncharted and challenging territory to her. As for how to manage time well and balance between study and competition, she held that the key was to allocate time scientifically. Regardless of it is study or competition, one should be devoted and improve efficiency. The competition itself is also a learning process, conducive to adjusting one's knowledge structure and optimizing learning methods for acquiring more knowledge as well as improving one’s ability to analyze and solve problems. It is not too so hard to manage both academics and competition well simultaneously, so that they can complement each other." This is what Chen said about competitions.
Talking about her plans for the future, Chen said she wanted to become an excellent teacher, and she has clear goals and requirements for each stage of her development after graduation. "Always cherish your dream. Only after you work diligently can you reap real happiness", this is probably the secret of Chen, a girl who is always ready to meet challenges and make breakthroughs.
